Cooled Radiofrequency Ablation Treatment to the Knee Joint - A Non-Surgical Option to Reduce your Knee pain


Cooled radiofrequency (RF) treatment is TGA-cleared for the reduction of osteoarthritis knee pain. This treatment is minimally invasive and does not require any medication to reduce your pain from your arthritis.


  • A radiofrequency generator transmits a small current of RF energy through an insulated electrode placed within the knee tissue.

What are the outcomes of Cooled Radiofrequency?

  • Cooled Radiofrequency can provide patients with longer lasting and more effective pain relief than intra-articular steroids and anti-inflammatories in patients with knee pain and arthritis. Cooled radiofrequency ablations provided clinically notable relief at 12 to 18 months. This is 16 times longer pain relief than corticosteroid injections, which are often only effective for 4 to 6 weeks (Hunter et al 2020)

  • Patients with osteoarthritis typically suffer from pain, particularly if you are not an immediate candidate for surgery.
  • Patients who are too sick or high risk to have a full joint replacement
  • obese patients trying to reduce their weight suffering from arthritis
  • Patients who are not tolerating medications for their arthritis.
